Madame Seraphina would never deceive
by promising what we might wish to believe.
She keeps on her table a bottle of camphor,
a box with an anthill, a carved wooden panther,
a fishbowl, an oriole, two rocks and a lime,
three candles whose heat spins a cheap angel chime,
an eggshell, a brass bell, a book in a clamp,
a ball of red string, seven socks, and a lamp.
